Huawei Honor 9 Lite Review

As the year waned, a British anthology series premiered another season of exploring and considering the many facets of innovation and how they affect our lives. I was reeling off a binge-watch of the season when the Honor 9 Lite dropped (carefully) in my hands. The name of the series, Black Mirror, essentially means, "the reflection of an unlit computer system screen", when I observed the all-glass design of the phone, the whole essence of the phrase became more evident. Honor's newest offering is all-glass-everywhere, improved in a manner that when the tall screen turned off, I was left reconsidering my life as I saw myself.

Essentially, the Honor 9 Lite is an amazingly good looking phone, but that's about it. Everything else about the phone is more or less mediocre and something that you would expect from mid-range phones anyhow. The brand-new glass style and the quad cams appears to be simply ticks on a list to set itself apart from the rest. And while it does handle to grab attention from curious observers, you will be left disappointed when in fact using the phone as an everyday driver.
There are phones that are useful, and then there are phones that just get the eyeballs without living up to the expectation they set. Take the Google Pixel 2 and the iPhone X in the premium range for example. The Pixel 2 does not possess a modern design. It's quite retro in the way it's constructed, as compared with the innovative iPhone X which can be found in an all-glass body. Between the two, the latter will certainly get more attention than the previous, but at the same time, the Pixel 2 will edge out the phone in terms of worth for loan.
A comparable conundrum is now raging in the mid-range section, now that the Honor 9 Lite is out in the market. It looks like it was sculpted from a piece of glass which provides a premium feel to the phone. It in fact feels rather underpriced for the products used. But then there are phones like the Lenovo K8 Plus which might have copious amount of plastic in its body, but does the job it's made to do.

In our evaluation of the Honor 9 Lite, we come to the conclusion that looks are not everything. It's the general package, and a consistent efficiency that makes all the distinction. The Honor 9 Lite is an exquisitely crafted smartphone. There's glass all over. Front, back, around the edges. It is so well made that it feels more like an artifact than a gadget you would utilize daily. The glass-enclosed style will advise you of the older Honor 8, but this one feels more compact thanks to the 5.6-inch univisium display housed in a 6-inch body. There's more screen real estate because of the 18:9 element ratio.

Phones are no stranger to glass styles. Before the metal unibody style took control of phones, glass was utilized to set premium phones apart from the rest. Phones with glass body have a snug and smooth hand feel, however they are likewise prone to damage. It is primarily because of that reason that manufacturers changed to aluminium bodies that offered phones the longevity glass could not. Yet, more recently, glass made a comeback, not due to the fact that phones needed to look much better, but for wireless charging. It was an acceptable compromise. However the Honor 9 Lite, despite having an all-glass body does not have cordless charging. So it's safe to presume, Honor's choice to utilize glass was for aesthetic appeals only. And in that regard, the phone simply exudes a premium feel. But is the glass long lasting adequate to stand up to the everyday wear and tear phones tend to go through?
